Osteopathic Family Helps Halt 5% Medicare Cut
January 4, 2007
DOs participating in the Medicare program will enjoy a stronger bottom line in 2007.
The House and Senate reached an agreement on legislation that will avert the scheduled 5% reduction in Medicare physician payments-freezing 2007 payments at 2006 levels.
The Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 (H.R. 6111) includes provisions related to Medicare, health insurance, the tax code, energy policies and trade policies. The bill also puts in place mechanisms that will provide physicians who voluntarily submit quality data with bonus payments of up to 1.5% beginning in July 2007.
The entire osteopathic family was instrumental in securing this payment freeze, making more than 20,000 direct contacts with Congress in 2006.
