Michelle vs the Med Student

Dammit, we should have capitolized on this!

Shiba inu pups are probably gonna be the next trend in dog now, like the puggle. Anyone who knows me well tell you I’m, a trend setter (snicker). Yet again, I was doing something before it was cool, like reading Wicked or thinking Johnny Depp was hot :)

LIVE Shiba Inu Puppy Cam!

Article: ‘Puppy cam’ is latest Internet sensation

But dammit, she was just in heat, her pups would have gone for double…or triple! Remember how cute she was?

Michelle! It’s been so long. In my rush to skim all over your blog so I don’t sound like a complete tool whilst catching up I saw a few things, and in a digest here they are: OMGWTF you’re a FELLOW? What happened to graduating from Med Student to Doctor and then Professor? Did you take a Fast-Track Course to Being A Really Old but Knowledgeable Academic? and OMG cute doggie! What, in the midst of all that you had time to become a dog breeder too?

*pauses to catch breath*

Okay no I’m not really THAT idiotic. I had no idea Shiba Inu was a real breed – I just saw this poster a long time ago and sniggered :P

There’s a lot of work involved with raising a litter of puppies, and it’s the Breeder’s responsibility to be certain they all go to appropriate homes. Shibas are a fairly healthy Breed, but they can still have Hereditary problems such as Hip Dysplasia, Subluxating Patellas, PRA, Glaucoma, Seizures, you get the idea. They are also a breed that is VERY independent, and has very selective hearing, especially when it comes to coming when called. Shiba puppies are the cutest little buggers you’ll ever see, but they can be a handful to raise and train. They learn how to push all your buttons, and then look at you with that cute innocent little face. Do yourselves, and the Breed, a favor, if you’re really interested in the Breed RESEARCH IT first. Talk to reputable Breeders. Go to the National Shiba Club of America website. The more informed you are about the Breed, the happier the experience of owning one of these guys will be. A reputable Breeder will be there for you for the life of your “friend”

Angry Medic- I recently had an opportunity to travel to the British School of Osteopathy slip through my fingers, and I thought, oh now I’ll never get to see those dreamy eyelashes and hear you say thing in your cute British accent. Whilst….*snicker*.

No I am still a student. Here we have 2 versions of fellows, ones that delay their graduation to help teach 1st & 2nd years, and then those that tack on 1-3 more years onto their residencies to become specialists (like internal medicine residents who become cardiology fellows). I am certainly not the latter *double snicker*

And I am not a dog breeder, I just wish my dogs could start earning their keep. Lazy vagabonds they are… eating my food and just sleeping all day. And I actually own that poster :)

So whats been up with you…where have you been?!

Mary- Yes we have had our training difficulties with her. We took her in when she was abandoned on the doorstep of the pet store next door to us, not even knowing she was a shiba until the vet was like, oh ya, definitely a purebreed. Heck, we thought she was only like 7 or 8 weeks old but then found out she was actually more like 14. We’d never had tiny dogs before, just big black labs!

She would always bolt for the door and never come when we called her. She would chew everything. She wasn’t exactly “cuddly” until it was 3am and she wants to sleep on your face. She didn’t seem to “get” the point of training…”so, all I’m losing out on if I don’t listen is a little biscuit? Its not worth my energy.”

She’s much much better now, but ya, knowing this, we decided it along time ago not to breed her until we can get our shit together to do it properly. I was just remorseful that we couldn’t have gotten it together by now b/c now we could capitalize on this craze. But I would definitely warn anybody that they are just cute little shitheads for a long time, haha.
